Hello, welcome and thank you in advance for bothering to read my stuff and nonsense about my travels. I cannot promise that they will make sense or be coherent in the slightest. This is more or less just a way of keeping friends and family updated without sending multiple emails. Anywayyyy….
Why go travelling now?
In my mid 30s? Must be mad! Well, yes, probably. It all began on my birthday in 2022 when I famously got all my friends so drunk that they all had to WFH the following day (I had school half term so was safe). After they had all haphazardly staggered into their various taxis and their various husbands/partners had been assured of their safety (if not sobriety) I decided that the night was still young, and so decided to go and meet my partner. He was having a drink in central London with a friend who was visiting from Vietnam where he lives as a digital nomad (you see where this is going? I paint a good picture, right?) and I gatecrashed and made the poor man tell me all about it.
Long story short, I thought it sounded wonderful and kept bringing it up with said partner who eventually said “Well then, why don’t we take a year out and go travelling?” I mean, he may have been calling my bluff but it got us both thinking. Before long, I had handed in my notice at school and started sorting travel jabs (Rabies hurts the most, FYI). Anyway, if I don’t do it now, when will I?!
Why a blog?
I like writing, and to be quite honest, I imagine the only people reading this will be friends and family so it’s a way for me to keep you all updated on the adventure without sending loads of emails and forgetting who I’ve told what (a family trait…) I shall endeavour to keep it up to date, not least to stop my poor father thinking I’ve been abducted by a cartel or fallen down a ravine, but I make few promises.
Where ya goin’?
So far the plan is: Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Home. This leg will take 10 weeks. Why we coming home? So my partner can get his anti-organ-rejection (technical term) meds. After the pit stop we go east to: Japan, South Korea… then tbc. But potentially Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Borneo, Indonesia, Singapore and of course, Vietnam. The reason I’m not 100% sure yet is because I have done a grand total of 0 planning. Boyfriend has been travel planner extraordinaire!
Are you still rambling on?
No no, I shall stop now!
